Fire tragedy in Nandi County.

A mysterious fire gutted down dormitories of Samoei Boys High School in Nandi county yesterday evening at around 8; 30 pm. The fire broke out at the dormitory area but luckily enough no one was injured as the students were in their evening preps.  The Uasin-Gishu county fire brigade went all the way to Nandi County to assist in extinguishing the fire but it was too late and the damages were beyond salvage. All the students’ belongings were completely burned without anything left. The fire incident has now razed three dormitories in the institution within one week.

This is the second incident happening, the first one happened barely a week ago. The cause of the fire has not been established as there are claims that there was an electric fault and some claim that it is arson because the place has been cited for the construction of a university in the institution. The students are now stranded without any help and pondering what next, the fear of being burnt inside the dorms while asleep is crippling their minds.

The lack of disaster preparedness plans in the county has largely contributed to too many tragedies befalling the county without the means of curbing them. The entire Nandi County doesn’t have a fire engine or even an active fire station. The governor and the county leadership should put in place measures to ensure such disasters are dealt with immediate effect.
